This BBC dyeline design plan was produced in 1980 for the refurbishment of the TARDIS Console Room. The refurbished set made its debut in the Season 18 story, Meglos. John Nathan-Turner was promoted to produce Doctor Who’s 18th Season. He retained a number of production items including this design plan up until his death. Following the death of Nathan-Turner’s partner in 2006, JNT’s collection was left to a close pers...onal friend. I purchased the plan in October 2006 directly from him. (I have a letter to confirm my purchase which will be included in the auction.)The plan displays beautifully and contains 1:50 scale details of TARDIS roundels, columns, the scanner and console room doors. As can be seen in the photos, the plan is a 1:1 copy of the original. It is a standard BBC size and measures approximately 83cm x 59cm. It has been printed onto an even larger sheet (again a standard BBC paper size in use during the 1980’s). It is known that Nathan-Turner retained one other example of this design plan. That copy now resides in a private collection of Doctor Who props and production items. This is not a modern photocopy. It is printed on paper stock used by the BBC in the 1980’s. Multiple copies of the original design drawing were prepared for production reference and use by the various BBC departments and workshops involved in constructing the TARDIS Console Room set.I have left the plan in its original condition but, it could easily be trimmed down for framing and display purposes. The budget costs associated with the TARDIS Console Room refurbishment were assigned to the Season 18 story, State of Decay. This story preceded Meglos in production order (but was broadcast afterwards). This is why State of Decay’s Director (Peter Moffat) and Designer (Christine Ruscoe) are referenced.
