Original Description:
Here's a keeper. Reluctantly for sale. I hope it goes to a good home though. Please read the description below carefully as I'm sure there are points of interest in it for anyone looking to purchase an extremely rare Anonimo 3 glasses. For those of you unfamiliar with the ANONIMO legacy here's a short debriefing.
At first there was Panerai in Firenze (Florence) which got famous in the 1990s.Because it got famous it was bought by Richemont and parceled off to Switzerland, w...ho are now in the process of destroying the brand.Unhappy with the Richemont buy out ex Panerai employees stayed put in Florence and started up Anonimo. The same Panerai craftsmen labored away and Anonimo in Firenze ostensibly became the new still built in Italy Panerai. When the recession hit in 2008 Anonimo folded.Down but not out and like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Anonimo started production again in 2010. But following a similar story, in 2012 they were bought by Richmont, who are now in the process of destroying the brand. With that all too familiar corporate tragedy out of the way let's proceed. You are viewing the last great roaring shout from the Panerai men and women who refused to lay down at Anonimo and produced the world's last truly Italian watch, and this is why. 1.   This is the Anonimo 3 Glasses in black, which is easily one of the most desirable of all the models that Anonimo produced. Furthermore, it was one of the first models Anonimo made and essentially helped define the brand.  3.   The case, dial, hands, crystal, strap, and buckle were all produced completely by house in Florence by the same Panerai craftspeople who then made Anonimo. 4.   This watch heralds from the first stage of production before the crash of 2008. How can you tell? The dial is garnished with the ANONIMO logo only, which in a sense was Anonimo's snub to the Swiss watch industry as a whole. 6.   As an added bonus the 3 Glasses had a low production run. This is number 0523, indicating watch number 523 and estimates are they made less than 1000.   Some further details are as follows: The display case back is ringed in brushed stainless steel with a host of laser etched information on it (please see photos) Case size is 41mm wide with a lug width of 20mm. The watch wears its size beautifully due to the overall low profile and would suit a wide variety of wrist sizes. My wrist is average at 7 and ¼ and it's perfect on me. Crown at the 4 enables time change as well as manual winding of the hand wound movement. Winding is in the first position and the crown is pulled out to the second position to set the time. When the crown is in the second (or open) position the 3 Glasses lives up to its name as a red disc in the small magnifier window at the 4, pops out underneath the dial to let you know the crown is open. When the crown is pushed in again the red disc retreats. It's a fun and unique feature of this watch with an air of practicality as well.
The movement is a 17 jewel unitas 6497 hand wound, decorated and adjusted to 4 positions. Bear in mind that this is the same movement that Panerai used in their early models. Here we see evidence of Anonimo carrying on that tradition and pedigree.  There is a slightly domed sapphire crystal, which for a non-diving watch is extremely robust and dare I say thick, and which the photos show distorts the dial at extreme angles - really very cool.
The dial itself is absolutely gorgeous and probably the most difficult dial I've ever tried to photograph and my pictures really don't do it justice. Suffice to say it's like an enamel nail polish black - it almost looks like liquid and just screams quality way above its price point.  The strap is of course a legend in its own right and these are coveted by collectors. It is of course Anonimo's proprietary KODIAK waterproof leather. Anonimo maintain that all their leather straps are created by the Ciampi family in Castelfiorentino in Tuscany. As with other parts of the Anonimo business, focus is on quality and not quantity with the company producing around 4000 Kodiak straps annually. Whilst the straps are fully handmade, stitching is done using a sewing machine. The straps are strong, solid, reasonably thick and feel very handmade and this helps contribute to the classy look and feel of the watch as a product. Many leather waterproofing treatments reduce leather porousness (as the process includes chemicals and additives that can block the leather's natural pores) and/or can compromise the structure of the leather. This is not the case with the Kodiak process, which uses a vegetable and resin mixture which allows the leather to maintain its porousness allowing water molecules to pass through the leather during immersion even in salt water.
I've also taken the liberty of adding a brand new handmade English tan leather strap in the sale. It's designed to fit the Anonimo buckle perfectly so if you're tired of black on black and want to do the black on tan look you've got the option now.  So that's about it. As you can see from the photos the watch comes with all boxes and documents and is BNIB condition. It's one of those watches that I've salivated over and always meant to wear but just never got around to. Maybe I spent too much time admiring it in its box.
The lucky buyer will feel extremely smug knowing he (or she) has bagged a classic. Would it be like buying the last Land Rover Defender that came off the production line? Maybe not but you get the idea.  The item will be well wrapped and sent insured, tracked and signed for. International bidders outside the EU please be aware that any taxes or customs duties incurred are solely your responsibility.
