The drawing, executed in charcoal and red chalk on laid paper, depicts a mythologicl scene, showing a sleeping sathyr (in our opinion the god Pan). He sleeps on a sheepskin, in the middle of a vineyard.Backside : a label "Ecole Flamande XVIIe, Le repos de Faune. Dessin à la sanguine et lavis, 19x31."
Authorship : the drawing is from the Flemish-Antwerp School of the Baroq...ue period. There is a general consencus that the artist should be found amongs one of the collaborators of the Rubens studio. He based his work on a prototype drawing by Rubens (1577-1640). Further research should therefore be done to become a more detailled attribution.
