For sale is this important French mannerist drawing, dating back to ca. 1600.
The drawing, executed in pen, ink and grey wash on laid paper, depicts a portrait of a religious figure (we think the evangelist Mark).This drawing could have been a preparatory study for a larger scale painting (possibly part of a set of four paintings, depicting the evenaglists).
Authorship : the drawing is from the French School, attributed to George Lallement.
GEORGE LALLEMENT (Nancy ca. 1575 - P...aris 1636) : After moving to Paris from Nancy at the age of twenty-one, Georges Lallemant quickly established himself as a painter, draftsman, and printmaker. He received many religious and civil commissions, making his studio one of the busiest in the city, as well as a popular place for young artists such as Nicolas Poussin to receive training. Though the early Baroque style became quite fashionable in France during the height of Lallemant's career in the 1620s, his style did not change accordingly. Lallemant's work shows that he continued to favor the acidic colors and theatricality of Mannerism.

Condition : Good. Some scattered dirt throughout. Top corners missing. Bottom corner left restored. Slightly spotted (allready cleaned). Unframed.
