Made in London England 1932 ONLY (in this exact form) true... FIRST issue. L200/60 is a TRUE Clipless model in that these NEVER had a Clip fitted. (Those were L205/60) etc. The L200 was the no frills no Bling version. No gold ring bands either. I love this pens minimalist simplicity. The wave chasing pattern is also wonderful. A superb alternative to the more common Chevron or Barley. Timeless elegance. Very handsome pen indeed. Tall and slim but not thin. Superb proportions. VERY similar in size to a Waterman 52 in both width and length. This L2 was the longest Leverless pen available at the time as they did not make an L3, L4 or L6 long version and all those are 1cm shorter but of course the L3, 4 and 6 are wider. The number after the L does not determine length it refers to nib size. Each nib size gets bigger and wider as the number goes up so the pens also become wider to take the bigger nibs but not longer. Indeed these Long L2 were only made from 1932 until 1934 after that the L2B was just made the L2. Also these 1st issue L2 have a UNIQUE Barrel imprint. Longer and wider than ANY other Leverless pens imprint. (See photo 5). By 1933 they changed this imprint to single quote 'SWAN' rather than this pens Double quote "SWAN" on the Barrel imprint. The imprint font size was also made MUCH smaller and narrower. This RARE imprint ONLY exists on L2 from 1932. No other Swan pen had this imprint. It is Bespoke to this pen in that year alone. It is also how you tell if you have a TRUE first issue leverless pen. Model was launched in 1932.
The pen itself is made of Jet Black High Gloss Celluloid. It has ZERO Cracks, Splits, Repairs, Scratches, Dents or Bite Marks anywhere! VERY rare to find so clean. MINT. Looks to have been used VERY little in its life if at all. Always looked after and NEVER abused. The Swan Mabie Todd Leverless etc Barrel imprints are deep and easy to read as new. ONLY a pen that has never been polished or even handled much can have such deep perfect imprints. The Knurled turning Knob Blind Cap(tail end) has L200/60 imprint. The Front Section (part you hold when writing) has swan L2 imprint. Both blind cap and front section are made of BHR (Black Hard Rubber) as is the top section of the Cap which also has a Swan logo imprint.
Of course the real JOY to this pen happens the moment the nib touches the page. WOW!!! what a writer. Beautiful Fine lines at normal pressure. Very elegant. Perfect for everyday use. But this nib really comes alive when you exercise it fabulous flexibility. On the down stroke when varying levels of pressure is applied this chap can flex from Fine all the way to Double Broad. Nibs rarely get this creative. The flex is also quite user friendly in that it is not to Soft, Loose or Twitchy. Only flexes on user command. Never by itself. A nib so creative its only limitation is the imagination and writing ability of its user. The Ladder/Comb feed these pen have are also Top Draw. Fabulous Ink Flow Qualities. On 03-Aug-19 at 22:23:16 BST, seller added the following information:Some More information about how to fill LEVERLESS Swan Pens....These wonderful pens are Twist Fill and have Ink Sacs inside. When you turn the Blind Cap (Tail End) it deflates the ink sac inside using a metal bar attached to the inside of the Blind Cap. Very Clever system. Then once you close the Blind Cap the Ink Sac reflates sucking in ink. To fill using bottled ink could not be any easier. Simply turn the knurled Blind Cap one and a half full turns until it will not turn anymore. Now place the whole of nib in bottled ink and turn the Blind Cap closed. Wait 5 seconds to fill. Now take nib out of the bottle of ink and wipe any excess with paper towel. Done. Takes less than 10 seconds and is Child Play EASY. Wonderful filling system. I have just serviced ALL these leveless pens and they ALL work exactly as they left the factory when new. Superb pens...
