Mabie Todd Swan L2 B Leverless Celluloid Fountain Pen 1932. 14C M Flex Nib. RARE Mint. Just Serviced with new Ink Sac. Pen has zero, cracks, splits or repairs etc. Fabulous example....

Made in London England 1932-33 ONLY in this e...xact form. True 1st issue. The L2 was the model Swan launched the Leverless pens with. It was the only model to come in 2 sizes. L2 long and L2 B which was 1cm shorter and soon to be standard length. All pens after 1933-34 became this length more or less. L3, L4, L6 of 1933-36 and the Snake and Lizard pens etc. Indeed most pen makers made their 1930s pens shorter than their 1920s pens. It was the fashion.
These L2B have unique L2B imprint Front Section and a smaller more compact Barrel imprint than the L2 long. Indeed the Swan Mabie Todd England etc Barrel imprint this L2B has became the standard on ALL Leverless pens 1934-40s. (See my L2 LONG for sale as an example of the VERY different imprint sizes and Swan Logo trade mark design etc....). By 1934 Swan no longer made the long version. And the L2B simply became the L2. To date this pen so accurately to 1932-33 ONLY is easy. The Cap has 3 unique Ring Bands that were ONLY fitted until 1933. By 1934 they were sing ring. The caps Swan logo top also became smaller by 1934. Although this example is Clipless and was made this way Swan also offered fixed Clip versions that have early Step Clip. The clip changed design same time as rings changed in 1933. The Clipless Models have different Model numbers that the Clip versions so you can tell if your pen is original Clipless or has just lost its clip. This pen for sale is TRUE Clipless factory original. Many pen in England were Clipless as had been the fashion since the 1910-20s. However I think by 1935 Swan no longer made Clipless models. ALL pens had fixed Clip after 1934-35.
The pen itself is made of Celluloid. Jet Black High Gloss with a Fine Barley Chassing. Timeless elegance. The Front section (part you hold when writing), Caps Swan logo top section and the turning knob Blind Cap tail end are all BHR. Black Hard Rubber. The pen has zero Cracks, Splits or repairs etc. The Barrel IMPRINTS are deep and easy to read. The caps Ring Bands are Yellow Gold Plated and also superb with only the lightest of patina. This pen has been loved an used from time to time in its life but NEVER abused. Overall once in the hand to the naked eye looks amazing still. Considering its 77 years old this is a rare treasure indeed.
Of course the real jewel in the crown with this beautiful pen has to be that glorious 14C M Flex Nib. Writes with a Medium line that has Fine line side stroke at normal pressure. Very elegant writer perfect for everyday use. This nib also has phenomenal flexibility that allows for even more line width variation on the down stroke when varying levels of pressure is applied. Can flex from Fine to all the way past Double Broad, Ultra creative nib for the writing Connoisseur. Grade A++++++++++++++++++++Flex Nib.

On 03-Aug-19 at 22:22:17 BST, seller added the following information:Some More information about how to fill LEVERLESS Swan Pens....These wonderful pens are Twist Fill and have Ink Sacs inside. When you turn the Blind Cap (Tail End) it deflates the ink sac inside using a metal bar attached to the inside of the Blind Cap. Very Clever system. Then once you close the Blind Cap the Ink Sac reflates sucking in ink. To fill using bottled ink could not be any easier. Simply turn the knurled Blind Cap one and a half full turns until it will not turn anymore. Now place the whole of nib in bottled ink and turn the Blind Cap closed. Wait 5 seconds to fill. Now take nib out of the bottle of ink and wipe any excess with paper towel. Done. Takes less than 10 seconds and is Child Play EASY. Wonderful filling system. I have just serviced ALL these leveless pens and they ALL work exactly as they left the factory when new. Superb pens...
