Up for auction today is a vintage Danish pen from the mid-1940s in Coral Red celluloid with gold plated trimBig BenCoral Red Made in Denmark by the Benzon Pen CompanyCopenhagenc.mid-1940s HistoryMade in Denmark in the 1940s by one of the Danish Big Four pen manufacturers. The Benzon Pen Co. was a major player alongside Penol, Parker-Olsen, MB and was also an importer of Wahl-Eversharp pens into Denmark. They often used Wahl celluloid on their pens and some models were s...tylistically very similar to Wahl pens, while others had a different styling.This model may have been produced for Benzon by a German pen company, the Hebborn Pen Co., known for the Luxor and Webster brands. Some Penol and Skribent models followed a similar design with different trim details which suggests that these also may have been made by Hebborn.Overall a cool streamlined coral red pen, with gold plated trim and a button cap top like the ones seen on 40s MB 22x and 24x pens.This model would likely have been made by Hebborn or Christian Olsen, using Parker celluloid stock. These pens have been seen in both Coral Red and Apple Green and have either gold or stainless nibs. Description/item conditionThe pen is button filler and it is made of Coral Red celluloid with ebonite button cap top and black barrel end. Art Deco clip and double cap band;The trim (clip and bands) are gold plated and remain in good condition, with some normal wear resulting from years of use. Personalisation (the name says: Regina) to the barrel in fancy script. Overall, a nice and still very presentable pen that was built to last. Filling systemThe filling system is a standard button filler. Unscrew the blind cap at the end of the barrel, immerse the nib in the ink bottle, press the button 2-3 times and wait 5 seconds for the ink flow into the barrel. Wipe the point with a soft tissue, replace the blind cap on the barrel end and you're good to go. Nib14k solid gold Big Ben nib. M (fmedium) semi-firm nib that writes with smooth, fine line with some line variation. Would make a nice daily writer.
