RARE!! 'THE CRANFORD CHILDREN' FROM THE SERIES OF DRESSING DOLLS I have been working on liquidating my late sisters collections and many of you who have been following my listings have asked WHEN WILL THE PAPER DOLLS BE LISTED? Well you are in LUCK!! I STILL AM CONTINUING WITH PIECES FROM MY SECOND GROUPING of Paper Dolls from her collection. Since I am not a collector I do have to apologize for my lack of knowledge on this subject. If I have gro...ssly misstated anything in the description it is fine if you want to correct me. This paper doll comes only with the center portion of a box lid and no box bottom. This is one of THE CRANFORD CHILDREN and was published by Raphael Tuck and Sons Co. LTD., who were the publishers to THEIR MAJESTIES, THE KING & QUEEN. The publisher was located in London, Paris, Berlin, Toronto, and New York. This paper doll is JENNIE CRANFORD, one of THE CRANFORD CHILDREN and from the SERIES OF DRESSING DOLLS. This has a Patent date of Feb. 20, 1894, but this series of paper dolls is listed in the 1910-1936 section of the Blair and Margaret Whitton collector's guide. This doll series was designed in New York and Printed in Saxony. The head of the doll has been glued in place on the body and she does have an attached stand too. The doll is 8 3/4 inches tall. It does appear that the bows for her hair that match the Blue and White Pinafore Dress does have a weak spot and will need some sturdy backing to keep it from coming apart. This doll comes with 4 Dresses and 2 Hats. Someone has taken the time with this set to mount the Doll and all the clothing on top of Acid Free paper to help preserve them as long as possible. THIS IS AN ORIGINAL BOX LID AND DRESSES, NOT A REPRODUCTION!! I just found the following information and I thought I would share:"Beginning in 1866, Raphael Tuck is perhaps the best known manufacturer of antique paper dolls. The company began “by appointment to her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Fine Art Publishers, London, ” and soon opened branch offices in New York and Paris. Their first paper doll was a baby with a nursing bottle, patented in 1893. Tuck’s German manufacturing facilities were destroyed by bombing in December 1940 and all records, plates and documents were lost. Tuck dolls are easily identified by the trademark and series name and number on the back of each piece. A trademark style of this company is a set of paper dolls with many costumes and interchangeable heads. Tuck also made “regular” paper dolls. Some of their titles include Sweet Abigail, Winsome Winnie, Bridal Party, My Lady Betty, Prince Charming, the popular Fairy Tale series and many more. Tuck made paper dolls several years into the twentieth century"Please keep in mind that I will gladly combine items for shipping so be sure to check out my auctions and eBay store items too.
