The sliding lid to the piece swings out on one side with half shaped cresent area moving to the left with the user then being able to replace the wick via the wick channel or refill the piece with grease, lard, lamp oil or whale oil.
Please view the Images for Enlarged Details! Bottom underside has a rivet where the internal wick channel is securely.Includes the original hanging hook. Note again the tooling work on the arm. Has some oxidation as would be expected from age, some blackening and soot to the surface and interior area. Bottom has "1. or I." small mark in red archival paint , undoutably a refence to a museum display or collection it was a part of at somepoint in its life. Stands 3 3/4" tall (Not including the hanging hook) and 4 1/2" in length and 3" wide. It's a Marvelous example of Early American Lighting and Coupled with the Swan Design, just a Gem of Early Folk Art! and sure to be a Center Point of Any Colonial Era Home Decorum or Early Lighting Collection.
