This listing is for a 1950's MUSICAL BULLDOG PLAYING PIANO w/box as shown. Beautiful tin litho depicting big band era ballroom dancing. Bulldog has some wear. Metal is in good condition.
Battery compartment is clean. This is a "MADE IN JAPAN" toy listed in Don Hultzman's book, COLLECTOR'S GUIDE TO BATTERY TOYS, copyright 2002, second edition. It is pictured & listed on page 123. It is a 1...950's era toy made by the Marusan San Co.. It has a rarity of 9 on a scale to 10 being the rarest, and a value of $1300.00 in C-10 condition without the box. The original box is included. It even has the original price stickers from F.A.O. Schwarz toy store New York, New York. You can almost hear Guy Lombardo and the Royal Canadians playing "Auld Lang Syne" on New Year's Eve. Would make a nice addition to any serious collector of toys.
As you can see by the underside photo, the wiring is not connected and has not been tested. Buyer will need to repair.
When repaired, the correct 4 actions follow: (1) Dog's cigar lights up red as if inhaling smoke from his cigar, (2) The cigar's red light turns off and he exhales real smoke, (3) Both hands move up and down as if playing the piano, (4) The piano makes chiming musical sounds as if really playing the piano.
