for a detailed view. A very large antiphonal leaf, 31” x 22”, on extremely heavy vellum. Circa 1650, Spanish, possibly Toledo in Latin. This particular leaf is from the Mass that is said on Good Friday during the season of Lent, prior to Easter Sunday. There are three staves of five lines each, in red with musical notes and script in black ink. Rubrics are in red. A largel and highly decorated initial “P” enclosed in a green border measuring... 6” x 6”. The “P” is decorated in colorful shades of pink, rose, yellow purple and green. This lovely letter begins the music from Matthew 27:37 from the passion of our Lord, “And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.” The verso Contains one staff of five lines in red with notes and script in black ink. Rubrics are in red. A large strapping initial “M” measuring 6” x 6”, begins the Antiphonal Memento mei or “And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.”, This request came from one of the thieves crucified along side Christ.
