Vintage Restored 1930s MONTBLANC Masterpiece Coral Red No. 2 Fountain Pen
Item History & Price
On 28-May-19 at 02:42:03 BST, seller added the following information:HistoryMade in Germany in the early 1930s. These early 1930s red Coral Red Montblancs are very highly sought after because they are more uncommon than the black models – and this is an Export model with the model name spelt in English (Mast...erpiece) rather than in German (Meisterstuck). These pens are mostly known to be with a push-knob filler, so it may be that the barrel was changed from No. 20 to to No. 2 during previous service in the 1930s but both cap and barrel look like they were made of the same batch of plastic. The pen has its original, intact button filling system and it works just as designed – the pen has been restored and it’s ready to write. Item condition:Decent vintage condition. The cap has a very nice and crisp inscription: “4810 Montblanc Masterpiece”. The Art Deco gold-filled teardrop clip has some high-point wear but nothing major. One gold filled cap band has a small ping - please review photos. The domed cap top has a large inset Montblanc snowflake emblem that is is toned ivory. There is an imprint on the barrel:"Original Montblanc"a outlined snowflake logo and "Simplo"with patent angem. The barrel imprint is still legible (please see photos). The cap and barrel have a bit of age-related shrinkage but not really visible. Overall, while this pen has some slight signs of normal use over the years, it is still in decent condition. It has an M semi flex nib which is in excellent condition. Imprints on the cap:4810 - MONTBLANC - MASTERPIECEImprints on the barrelORIGINAL [logo] MONTBLANCSIMPLO, PATENT angem. The filling system:Button filler. To fill the pen, one just needs to unscrew the barrel end, immerse the nib in the ink bottle, press the filler button 2-3 times, wait 5 seconds, wipe the pen point with a soft tissue and screw the knob back down and there – voilá! The pen’s filled and ready to write. The filling system has been restored with a new ink sac and the pen’s ready to write. As mentioned before, I believe this model should have a push-knob filler but I have seen several Danish masterpieces in this configuration so they may have serviced push-knob pens with push button replacements due to shortage of parts.Nib:14k solid gold original No. 2 Montblanc nib – fine, semiflexible (F-M) with nice ink shading and line variation. This pen would make a great writer.DimensionsCapped: c.12.5 cmUncapped: c.11.15 cmPosted: c.14.5 cm Please view all the Photographs as they form large part of the description.
