Very rare and beautiful, ca1880’s Native American Sioux Indian Bead Decorated Buffalo Hide Teepee Bag. This original, late 19th century Sioux Beaded Hide Teepee Bag measures approx. 21" by 12 3/4" and features outstanding bead decoration.
This wonderful, Sioux Indian Tepee Bag is sinew sewn by hand with beadwork decoration featuring chalk white, pea green, cobalt, translucent red and yellow colored trade beads. While the large panel of beadwork on the front... of the Bag is stunningly beautiful, the Bag is damaged with hide loss at the top of both the front and back of the Bag, some short tears to the hide, stiffness to the hide and some bead loss. The Bag originally had a sinew sewn, bead decorated flap closure which is only partially present. This 19th century Tepee Bag deserves (and is worthy of) a full professional conservation and restoration!!

This very rare and original, ca1880’s Sioux Bead Decorated Hide Tipi Bag is in good condition only. As stated above the Bag is damaged with hide loss at the top of both the front and back of the Bag, some short tears to the hide, stiffness to the hide. There is some minor bead loss along the top edge of the front panel (see the scans below) and to the beadwork on the sides of the Bag. The Bag retains only one of the original tin cone drops. The Bag originally had a sinew sewn, bead decorated flap closure which is only partially present. This 19th century Tepee Bag deserves (and is worthy of) a full professional conservation and restoration!!
All elements of the Teepee Bag are original and there has been no repairs or restorations.
