One of the most sophisticated slide rules ever made, used for calculations pertaining to blackbody radiation. An incredible 34 scales for 13 different quantities.
The rule is in excellent condition. Gently used, with very minor scratches visible only on close inspection. The runner and the cursor both operate very smoothly. An identifying numeral is neatly inscribed on one of the metal end br...aces. Original custom leather case is included. The leather case shows a few scratches, especially on the back. See photos.
A well-researched article by Johnson and Stewart discussing blackbody radiation slide rules generally, and the Pickett Model 17 in particular, is available at https://www.researchgate.net/publication/256089590_A_history_of_slide_rules_for_blackbody_radiation_computations . The authors called the Pickett Model 17 "the pinnacle of what was possible in a general purpose radiation slide rule. It was also the last [in 1970] of the true slide rules to be made for performing thermal radiation calculations." (Scroll down to Section 3.6 of the paper.)
