A genuine Vintage RARE and stunning 100% Wool antique rug from the quality English carpet maker Woodward Grosvernor. Also, selling other rugs, etc.
Woodward Grosvenor have been making carpets in England since 1790 using traditional Wilton Looms, and many of their carpets are in prestigious locations. I don't know the exact age of this high quality rug, but it had been with its last family for over 70 years and was said to be over 100 years old.
A stunning and... extremely RARE piece in a Safavid medieval creatures/hunting type scene, a design which was very popular with the royals of this time, with birds, oriental scrolls and flowers to accentuate the scenes. IN CREAM WITH DARK BLUE, PINKS, GOLDS AND GREENS, ETC.
Very good condition overall with no stains, or fading and just been professionally cleaned with disinfectants. PHOTOS TAKEN IN NATURAL LIGHT HENCE ANY VARIATION IN COLOUR.....NOT FADED.
There is some slight wear to the pile in the centre medallion, which can just be seen in the photos, as a slight variation in colour, and also some wear on the width end edges, which can just be seen on the photos of the whole rug...overall this is not very noticeable at all.
There are two old repairs on the one long side where the rug was fitted around pipes, so these are two cuts that are around 3 inches in from the edge each cut is around a third into the rug (see last photo for close up). These are only noticeable when up very close. They have been sewn, which was sound and solid on its own, but I have now also added a patch on the back over this, which is siliconed down, to give extra support to this. I have done this many times and found it to be the best repair method and very good and solid.
The size is approximately 369cm x 272cm (12ft x 8.9ft).
