He started studying art at Temple Collegeand moved on to The University of Texas - class of 1969. He also studiedgraphic design, illustration, and photography. After working as a commercialartist, he joined the Austin Fire Department and pursued his art careerpart-time, attending weekend art shows and doing freelance commercial work. Mikeretired... from the Fire Department to dedicate himself to his painting full time, in 2000. He is a prominent member of the Bastrop Fine Arts Guild. C M Hendersonpaints in watercolor and oils. His favorite subjects are Texas cowboys, theTexas coast and Bastrop where he has lived for over 30 years. His work hangsin collections throughout the U.S. and internationally. He has judged andjuried art shows and has been featured in the highly regarded magazine"Southwest Art". Mike has been voted the best or runner up artist inthe annual poll conducted by the Bastrop Advertiser for 5 years in a row.This example is a beautiful Metal Etching depicting aTexas Windmill sitting on a hill, surrounded by trees and grasses. The metaletching is signed C M Henderson (below the windmill) and it is beautifully setinto a shadow box frame. Original Frame measures 9” x 9”, Metal Etchingmeasures 5" x 5".Mary Schug was the owner of this Metal Etching, it hungproudly in her home for many years, and was viewed by hundreds of people. Most of her paintings, prints and etchings were acquiredbetween 1960 and 2000. Phil and Mary Schug lived at 222 King William, SanAntonio, TX from 1963 - 2006. Phil passed away in November 2005 and Mary passedaway in January 2011. Mary was a member of The Rock and Lapidary Club laterknown as The Southwest Gem and Mineral Society, The San Antonio River ArtGroup, The Craft Gild, The Fiesta Commission, and she was a Charter Member ofthe King William Association. Mary and Phil both spent their last years atMorningside Manor in San Antonio, TX.Mary was very active in the First UnitarianUniversalist Church of San Antonio, during which Phil was the Minister from1952 - 1964. Mary served in almost every capacity on all the boards ofall the societies to which she belonged. She was a driving force for allof them. She presented polished stone jewelry (some set in silvermountings that she constructed herself), in the River Art Gallery on a regularbasis. For many years, she was the space chairman of The San Antonio River ArtGroup and worked on the San Antonio River Walk to make sure that all theartists were in their proper places during the shows. By doing this, she got tomeet all of the artists and become friends with them. She always enjoyedher friendships with the artists and the rock hounds, including C MHenderson.
