Alps - Cragstan Great Astronaut made in Japan.
This Robot / Astronaut was made in Japan in the early sixties by Alps. Build on the same base as Television Spaceman but where the last one is pretty common.. this Cragstan Great Astronaut is not...Its a robot seldom seen in the market.
Made out of Tin and battery operated. In action the robot walks forward with swinging arms, a movie that runs in his chest, kaleidoscope light action and a great looking tinmade astronauts face un...der a clear dome.
I found this robot in Italy where it was part of a small collection.
The condition of this robot is excellent with some things to mention. First the robot is in fully working order but the antenna ( that functions as on / off switch ) is not making good contact so you have to toggle a bit with the antenna to get the robot going..all his functions work fine, light, movie etc all works fine but the robot does not walk properly because of the worn out wheels and the heavy batteries we use these days.
Now, i have had many of these robots in my collection over the years and I can not remember i ever had one that was able to walk as it should so its a common flaw of these robots.. perhaps that is also the reason not many survived time...who will tell
The robot is original, antenna and dome are original as well but the chain is a replacement. Further the robot shows normal play wear and some spots as you can expect of a played with robot of this age.
Overall a very nice example. Plz keep in mind that the robot works fine but you need to toggle a bit with the antenna ( on off switch ) to get him going.
I did not want to open up the robot for this, will leave that to decide to the new owner. For this reason i will sell the robot as not working.
Hard to find robot !
