See how the lilies flourish white and fairSee ho...w the ravens fed from Heven (are)So never distrust your God for clothes nor breadWhile the lilies flourish and the ravens fed
Susan's name and the date of July 5 1830 are stitched beneath the verse then the whole piece is surrounded by a deep strawberry border. The linen has overall discolouration consistent with its age, slightly darker in places with a light crease running across the middle. The colours of the silks are good. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colours would have looked when Susan first stitched it. As can also be seen from the photographs, there are several areas of damage to the linen, some having resulted in a small amount of stitch loss. I've photographed the sampler on a white background to highlight the damage but once on a similar coloured backing it would be less noticeable.Measures 13 1/4" x 14 3/4"
