Selling a rare antique blue decorated Ripley, Illinois stoneware crock. The piece is signed on the bottom with the name John L Randall. There is more inscription on the bottom but difficult to read. He was born in Ripley in 1848 and died in Mt. Sterling , Illinois on April, 18 , 1921. I think he was a son of the Ripley potter John R Randall. The piece is in excellent condition. It is hand decorated in cobalt blue with the number 6 , X markings, and dots and lines that are typical Riple...y designs. Also there are some incised Xs on the side. It stands 14 inches tall and 12 inches in diameter across the top. It has Albany brown slip interior.
