LIONEL 2368 F3 Baltimore & Ohio (B&O) Diesel AB Units

The offering is for a pair of vintage Lionel No. 2368 Baltimore & Ohio (B&O) F3 AB diesel engines. There are two units offered for sale...….the A powered unit and the B dummy unit. These units were manufactured in 1956 only and are considered by many collectors to be the rarest and most sought-after of the Lionel post-war F3's .
Both the powered and dummy units are in excellent plus (C7+) condition......truly outstanding! Both units are complete and all o...riginal, with no rust or missing parts and no distortion of component parts. There are no issues with the powered unit plastic body except that the mounting boss has been reinforced to prevent cracking (see picture 5). Cracking of the mounting post or boss is a common issue with F3's because the body mounting screw is often over torqued. There are no box rubs on the A powered unit, but there are a couple of minor paint abrasions on the white side trim. The colors are bright and vibrant, particularly for an engine that is over 60 years old. The battery bracket has some minor corrosion that can be seen from the inside only (see picture 9), but there is no corrosion damage to the frame, relay, or reversing unit. The powered unit has been lightly run and it was recently serviced and tested by a Lionel service station and it ran as it should except for the horn. F3 horns are notoriously finicky and may require additional adjustment prior to being placed in service. Simply stated, I cannot guarantee that the horn will work. The B (dummy unit) is in slightly better than excellent plus condition. There are a couple of box rubs on the B unit roof ventilators and a couple of minor paint abrasions on the white side trim. The B (dummy) unit has also been very lightly run. The colors are bright and vibrant, particularly for an engine that is over 60 years old.

The 2019 Greenberg's price guide lists the No. 2368 B&O F3 AB units at $1008 in excellent (C7) condition. However, these units are in slightly better than excellent condition.....justification for the higher starting price for the opportunity to own these truly rare and highly sought-after vintage Lionel F3 diesel engines.
