Hello, up for sale is a Rare Late 70s NOS, NIB, unmounted in original box Shimano Dura Ace 10 Pitch 16 tooth Track Cog, made in Japan. Shimano came up with the 10 pitch design in 1976. The idea was to make a smaller 10mm. pitch (versus the standard 1/2") to the cog, chain and chainring. This lowered the weight due to the smaller components. It also enabled you to have the same gear ratio as a standard drivetrain (i.e. a 50 tooth 10 pitch chainring ha...d the same gear ratio as a standard 50 tooth chainring when coupled with a 10 pitch rear cog and chain) and was said to be more efficient. Shimano went as far as to test, but never market a 10 pitch road drivetrain, as it proved to be too complicated for the marketplace to make such a drastic shift, and Shimano had only just got into the high end road component game a few years before, and at the time Campagnolo ruled the roost. 33x24 tpi cog threading is for Shimano Dura Ace 10 pitch track hubs only, that also took the proprietary 32x24tpi reverse threaded lockring.
