An unusually large and rare 1763 English sterling dish cross or heating stand.These were made almost exclusively from c1750 to c1790.
The earliest known dish cross dates to c1750 and is discussed and illustrated inWaldron pages 132-133.This example is nearly as old having been crafted in London in 1763.
Usually found in two sizes small around 8 1/2 inches long and large 12 inches.Th...is one is nearly 14 inches across supports.
Period engraved standing bird family crest to removable, gadroon and shell rim burner.Sliding pierced spoon with gadroon trim supports, to accommodate various size dishes for heating.Atop caterpillar and scroll pierced gadroon edge feet.
This 1763 British dish cross is 13 3/4 inches and 29 standard ounces.These are rarely seen larger than 12 inches.
In very fine condition.
Rich sterling patina.Original detail.One support slightly bent.
