Hello, and welcome to my June Auction. Here you will find some great historical items!
This auction is for a first American printing of "Origin of the Species, " written by Charles Darwin and first published in the United States by Appleton in 1860. This is one of a handful of copies left that are the first issue, with two quotes opposite the title page. Astonishing. You can see the book has foxing and water damage. Also in photo 11 you can see one torn page (121-12...2) out. Something written in pencil on ffep (photo 12) maybe someone can tell me what that says. The fold out map is present and oddly in fantastic shape. Text-block is solid with nothing falling out. I need someone who can take better care of this book than I can. SHIPPING: Each book will be placed inside a padded envelope and shipped securely in a box.
