Thislisting is for my Pioneer receiver SX-1280 that I have owned for the last 13years since I purchased it from its previous owner who claimed he was theoriginal owner. But as you probably know it is one of those things you want tobelieve is true but you can never check. Anyways, about the receiver. I am sureyouve read all the information out there. You know its output rate...d at TRUE185 W. per channel. It is the best quality receiver ever made. Only the highestquality components were used. RealJapanese quality down to the last screw designed made and assembled inJapan. That is how Pioneer made its truename. This receiver can last a 100 yearsif properly taken care of, in the right hands not abused. And its heavy as a tank. Now you probablywant to know what this one is like.It has been in my living room, the center of attentionthe entire time. 100 flawlessperformance. Everything works as it should. Nothing is missing, damaged orbroken. Amazing sound, both channels produce strong and confident sound is what youget. No noise, static or any distortion. Every light, every switch, the radio, every function works flawlessly as it should. Amazing unit. Important to noticethat unlike many other units out there that had been recapped and altered, thisone is all original inside. Nothing had been replaced, and there is no need forit since it all works perfect in its original state. Side note: I listen tothis only with my speakers Pioneer HPM 100. I found this to be the ideal pair, especially since back at that timethis was meant to be purchased together for ideal sound, and it really shows.Anyways, you can use any speakers you like, its just what I chose to use. Physical condition is just about ideal. The twoblemishes you should see on the photos: One small mark on the left side on thefront panel. The second is a cat paw scratch on top of the wooden case. That isall folks. Shipping: I would prefer a local pick up if possible, but if not I will ship it. Things you should know. Receiver is heavy andrequires a special double box packing to ensure safe arrival to your home. Iknow how to pack these, Ive sent a few over the years and I know if you dontpack one well it will get destroyed in the mail. Shipping cost comes out to 200. You will be receiving a giant box. This listing is for aPioneer SX-1280 Stereo Receiver Serial No: YC26002569. Of note this unit is theinternational version with adjustable line voltage. Cosmetically, the frontvertical portion of the faceplate, knobs and switches, wood case and front corners, metal top grill, heat sink and rear panel are in a very nice condition. The tophorizontal edge of the face plate has numerous scratches some of which are hardto photograph but are clearly apparent to the eye. Please rely on thephotographs in... assessing overall cosmetics. Before testing I brought the1280 up slowly on a VARIAC over about 24hrs. Electrically, the unitpowers on and both the surge circuit and speaker protection relays click in. Iused an mp3 player plugged in to the Main-in jacks to assess the condition ofthe Power-amp section of the 1280 and cycled the power on and off a dozen timesor so while carefully listening for any change in L-R volume level andorimaging to asses the condition of the speaker relay. To my ears the 1280 Power-amp sounded very-verygood with excellent stereo separation, imaging and stereo balance whichremained unchanged with power off-on cycling. The linear gain of the 1280 Power-ampis about 38 and it could play very loud driven directly by the mp3 player. NextI powered down and unplugged the 1280, re-inserted the Pre-Main jumpers andplugged the mp3 player into the Aux inputs. The line level section (i.e pre-amp)of the SX-1280 exhibited some issues and needs servicing repair. On repeatedturn-on's the R channel is sometimes significantly lower in volume than theL-channel and other times completely silent. The function, tone amp, tapemonitor and stereo mono switches are dirty and wiggling pushing on andoperating same would sometimes modulate the volume imbalance but most times didnot. Additionally, I sometimes heard distortion and other times did not. Mybest guess is that the pre-amp issues are due to a combination of dirty switchesand a component problem on the flat-amp board. The radios pull in stations butexhibit L-R channel issues identical to the aux-in issues. Also, while I didnot fully test the Phono inputs I listened to phono-amp noise as I turned thevolume to max and the phono-amp noise exhibited the same issues as the Aux andRadio inputs. Additionally, the two leftmost dial lamps are out as are thepower meter lamps. The function lights work but although I believe I heard FMstereo I did not see the FM stereo light come on. The preceding constitutes mybest effort to characterize the condition of this unit, but I am not a repairprofessional and there maymay not be other issues such as out of spec caps, ect. Due to the line levellamping dirty swich issues described above I am selling the SX-1280 AS-IS NO RECOURSE forrepairrestoration. I will accept no returns on the sale of this item. Havingsaid that, I believe this unit is an excellent candidate for restorationrepair.Scratches on the horizontal face plate edge can likely be sandedpolished andthe line-level repairlampingswitch cleaning issues would normally be includedas an element of a competent restoration at little or no charge if not addressed as a servicerepair onlymatter. The SX-1280 will beprofessionally packed by a UPS Pack Ship store and will be insured for sellingprice plus shipping. (shippingwill be expensive as the packed 1280 will be over 70lbs in weight and oversizedin girth). The fixed price for packing, insurance, and shipping charges is 250.00. Adult signature is required.
