These are two glass plate holders marked American Optical Scovill Manu. They are 5x8 format. One is complete. The other is missing the piece that goes on the bottom of it. I found the piece that is along the top and it is included. These are early dry plate holders. This is a five day auction. Selling as is with no return.
I don't see the name of the manufacturer. This is an antique lens presumably from a magic lantern projector. I did not attempt to clean it, original patina can be clearly seen in the images. I don't see cracks or major scratches to the glass. Please see images for cosmetic condition. Glass has dust and would benefit from cleaning.

For the second time this summer, I'm heading up to Chicago, where I'll join a few hundred other like-minded lunatics at a celebration of antique technology. The pilgrimage also involves my stopping at every vintage guitar shop within five miles of the highway to see if I can find the mint 1956 Les Paul Jr. I stupidly pawned for 325 in 1986 when I needed money to buy an MG Midget that caught fire while I was driving it home from the happy individual who'd just sold it to me. British Leyland sport...s cars. Built to last a lifetime if you plan on dying at age two. Right now, I'm into other things, the likes of which you'll see if you browse the roster of no-reserve auctions in my eBay store. It's a great store, probably the best store of its kind on the internet, and if you take a good look, I suspect you'll find something you can't live without. And don't forget, you can add me to your favorite seller list and Ebay will automatically send you updates when I put similar new auctions online.br style""Here's an early and excellent Meagher wet plate camera with a Dallmeyer 6 12" x 8 12" rapid rectilinear lens.Lens dates to the early 1870's, so I suspect the camera was made around the same time. Step up to the REAL large format Nice 11x14 folding wet plate camera. Used by my late father. It has new bellows, new plate holder, and new focusing frame. Please note the following issues I found:- Crack in the frosted focusing pane. It's not all the way through, and doesn't affect functionality.- Mounting plate on the bottom re-enforced with gorilla glue.- Angle bracket on the side cracked- Crack on the top of the frameNote: None of the issues above affect usabilityMy father purchased the came...ra for use, then had the plate holder, focusing plate, and bellows made new. Great camera for stepping up to the real big format Note, lens and lens board not included. Please let me know if you'd like any additional pictures, or have questions.I'm taking my best guess at shipping cost. If I'm over, I'll refund the difference. For sale is a Kodak Brownie 3B camera that has been modified to make wet plate collodion images on tintype plates. The plate size it uses is quarter plate ( 3 14" by 4 14") size. The camera comes with eight tintype plates which are sometimes called ferrotype plates. The plates are historically correct to the ones used in the collodion era as they are hand cut from this steel and feature a deep, glossy, double black coat of japan on the front and a thin coat brushed on the back. Each plate comes ...with a protective mylar sleeve that will keep it safe until wanted for use. The camera dates back to the early 20th century and is in decent condition for its age, however, the side catch was missing when I obtained the camera so I added a new one (see photo). This camera has been tested and has given great results. I have included an example of the kind of image it can take in the photo section. The tintype shown was taken with this camera. If you are new to wet plate photography and do not want to spend a lot of money on a camera, this is great option.

The plates are hand cut from thin steel and have a deep, glossy, black coat of japan, twice-baked on the front and a thin coat brushed on the back. The plates are similar to the ones used by photographers in the mid 19th to early 20th century. Each plate comes with a protective mylar sleeve that wi...ll keep it safe until wanted for use. This camera has been tested and has given great results. The photo section of the listing shows a ferrotype plate resting on the camera's plate holder that was made with this camera. The other two tintypes were made with other Kodak Brownie 3B cameras as well. They give one a good idea of the the detail that can be achieved with such an inexpensive camera. If you are new to the wet plate process and do not want to spend a large amount of money on a camera for collodion photography this is a great choice.
