I have not tested this with film, but you'll have a full 30 days to try it out. Cosmetic condition is excellent; very little sign of wear. Winding lever is a bit stiff, but that's likely from lack of use. Slight wear to the Taking Lens coating; no fungus, no element separation. Some dust on the Viewing Lens mirror, but that's pretty much harmless. Waist-level finder can be removed and replaced with a prism finder.
Shutter speed and aperture controls are synchronized. Shutter leaves are clean and oil-free. Self-timer is functional.
Due to its age, the shutter lags are the slower speeds, and sticks open below 1/8th sec. Faster speeds (1/30th and faster) seem very close.
As such, I would recommend at least a shutter CLA from Harry Fleenor at Oceanside Camera Repair. A shutter CLA will run about $175. Mr. Fleenor has about a 5-month backlog of repairs (he's very much in demand), so if you buy and send it to him now, it should be ready for Christmas! A great gift for the old-school photographer in your family!
