From the Vermont estate of a family that were descendants of Stonewall Jackson - great grandmothers maiden name was Jackson - with many turn of the 20th Century items at the sale bearing the Jackson name. Copper pitchers of this type and age are attributed to being slave-made, with copper being believed at the time to kill bacteria in drinking water. Please note the rough-hewn nature of the item. Is is hand hammered, with crude soldering marks. It has retained its structural integrity and still ...holds water. Measures 11.5 high with the base being 8 across. Estimated to be from the mid to late 1800s. A wonderful piece. Please see photos. Thanks.

Antique 1800's blue white sponge ware pitcher You know we love our antique stoneware and this beauty is no exception It is 9" tall and just under 6" at the base. It is in the "chicken wire" sponge pattern and the colors are still wonderful. We can't believe the condition this is still in There are a couple pock marks and lines from when it was made and some light crazing but no chips or cracks. It has been handled with love for many years. We purchased this here in Ohio at the auction of an anti...que dealer who had closed her shop many years ago, but was selling off much of her collection to downsize to a smaller home. And if you love this pitcher, we have a bowl that's very similar. Please take a moment to check out the pictures we have included. They are a great way for us to show the item and condition better than we can put into words. Wonderful Early Antique Blue white Spongeware Pitcher, measures 9" tall. See the pictures to see the condition and a better understanding of this stoneware pitcher. In the handle area and spout, these are manufacture defects, not cracks. It is remarkable condition. There is one tight one inch hairline at the top, I didnt notice it until I reviewed the pictures. see picture 2. I'm sending this priority with insurance.
