DESCRIPTION:This listing is for a "sweet" German Kestner Alphabet Series doll who measures approx. 23" tall. Incised on the back of her bisque head is "Made in K Germany 14, 146". Reference tells me this doll was made by J.D. Kestner, 1897+ Germany being of the Alphabet "K" series. A number and letter always went together. She is a bisque socket head, with strung wooden composition jointed body. She has all fingers and toes intact. Body is stamped on the lower b...ack "Excelsior, DRP No. 70685, 4, Germany". Body shows overall wear, repaint, scuffs, paint loss for being 100 or so years old. I do not know if all the body parts are original since one arm, and upper arms are a darker color paint, see photos, I do not know her past history. A lovely & expressive face with open and close brown glass sleepy eyes, she has painted lashes around eyes, brush stroked painted brown eye brows and open mouth with upper teeth, there is a little dimple in her chin. There are several "paint rubs" around the upper head area, this usually happens when the wig is pulled off the head without being soaked. There are remains of the plaster pate around the rim of the head. The pate is mostly intact. I flashed her head inside and do not see any cracks or hairlines. Her long antique blonde human hair wig slips over a plaster pate on her head. Wig shows lots of overall wear but is charming. Doll wears a vintage dress with lace trim and snaps down the back, it is in nice vintage condition. She wears vintage full slip, half slip and pantaloons all of which are in wonderful condition. She wears brown stockings and antique shoes that are in good shape. This doll displays well with her clothing on.
