The middle section of the gauze is then stitched at the centre with a poignant depiction of Christ on the cross with the words The Crucifixion stitched above then flanked by flowers, birds and floral urns. The lower section of the gauze is stitched with a strip of grass which has a central Tree of Knowledge standing on it, complete with entwined serpent and Adam and Eve standing beneath its fruit laden branches. Each figure then has a gatehouse/folly building, flowers and a carnation urn flanked by owls at their side. The foliage of the Tree has a cherub hovering to its left and right with crowns, birds, flowers, diamonds and a plump bird flanked by two tiny dogs to the side of the left cherub and a heart, carnation, flowers, birds and closed tail peacock by the cherub on the right. The whole piece is then surrounded by a meandering heart and flower border. The gauze has overall discolouration consistent with its age, slightly darker in places with an area of staining running diagonally from the horizontal bar of the crucifix across the right side of the gauze and much less so on the other side down to the word February. The colours of the silk are good. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colours would have looked when Hannah first stitched it. Measures 21 1/2" x 17 1/2"
