A fine and rare c1890 Whiting Mfg. Co. sterling tea service.
Founded as Tift & Whiting in 1840 in Attleboro, Massachusetts originally jewelers.After a fire, moved to New York and began crafting fine silver wares.
The famed designer Charles Osborne worked withe firm in the 1870s and from 1888-1915.It was during this time that our tea set was designed and crafted, almostcertainly an Osborne... design.
Shaped rectangular almost bombe form with slender petal fluted mid-sectionwith sweeping vine and suspended floral.Cover retains the original hand chased leaf and flower twisted cone cap finial.Richly detailed leaf and floral mount spout.Feathered leaf accented C shape handle.Atop conforming flower crown leaf framed vine and tongue cap feet.
Richly engraved leaf tip vine monogram, unable to discern the initials.
This late 19th century Whiting sterling teapot is 10 inches andand the complete set weighs 79 standard ounces.
In fine condition.
Teapot interior clean as if little used.
Rich sterling patina, retains original detail.
Teapot lid closes flush.Handle secure.We had our silversmith replace the original heat stops to allow world wide sale.
