A superb antique Indian Delhi shawl from the mid 19th Century. I very rarely see them now, so I was delighted to purchase this one.It is hand embroidered in silk floss threads in beautiful colours.The red base fabric is very fine and soft. I think it is a mixture of silk and wool.MEASUREMENTS.It is 102 inches long (...259 cm) and 23 inches wide (58.5 cm).CONDITION.As is fairly usual, there are some holes in the red fabric. I have placed each half against a white background so you can see the most obvious ones. There are also several small holes amongst the 2 embroidered end sections but they are not really visible unless held to the light.There is some slight darkening in the centre of the red section and some stains.There are no tears or repairs.Some of the yellow threads on the outer edges have come loose (See photo with black arrow).I think it could still be worn and certainly it would display very well.
