Here is a top-of-the-line vintage Jaques of London Staunton style chess set, circa 1894.The King stands 3 1/2" tall with a base of 1 3/4". This set is heavily weighted and has a great feel.All the pieces are felted. When I purchased this years ago, the seller told me it had connections with British Royalty, It is inscribed on the green label on the box..."given by Mother"There are some minor flaws. The Black queen has a crack on the base-nothing is loose...it all... is solid.The White King has part of his crown missing. Two black pawns and one white pawn have chips on their hoods. Most of the knights' ears are chipped off, partially or otherwise.The Black King has "Jaques of London" inscribed on its base.The characteristic Jaques mark is stamped on the king's knights and rooks (hard to see on a couple, but they are there.I love this set...it has character and its quality is the best in the world.Don't miss out on this beauty.Shipping is free with the package being insured.
