This Victorian chess set and box i think dates to around 1870 , the box is made of mahogany that has nice colour and patina with age that is baize lined and has the original label which says "The Staunton Chess Men" made by Jaques of London and has i think been signed H Staunton and has the number 561 as seen in the photos , inside is the original chess set that is complete apart from a possible replacement piece of a white pawn as shown , on the white King it has a makers mark for Jaq...ues and a crown mark on a couple of other pieces , unfortunately most of the pieces have chips in various degrees and both kings have the tops missing , the kings measure 3 inches high without their tops , the pieces are not weighted , the box measures 7.5 x 5.5 x 3.75 inches , a few small scuffs and scratches but in pretty good condition for its age
