Rare and exotic 1920s - 40s Chinese Export pendant that's both wearable and highly collectable
Carved cinnabar with gold gilt over sterling silver filigree and cannetile intricately and expertly decorated with cloisonne enamel
Both the carved cinnabar and the enamel work are in very good condition considering the age of the piece, and there are no problems with the filigree and cannetille work that I can see. The gold gilt is a bit worn in some areas, mostly on the back of t...he pendant.
There are several things I love about this pendant. It combines everything that fascinates me about early 20th century Chinese Export jewelry: the intricate craftsmanship of the carved cinnabar, filigreen, cannetille and enamel work; the unusual juxtaposition of colors; the exotic femininity of this aesthetic. But while I personally find that many Chinese Export pieces are a bit too over the top to wear on a regular basis, this pendant is small enough that it can be worn often and maybe in combination with other pieces.
