Antique U.S. Springfield 1873 Trapdoor Carbine 3 Piece Cleaning Rod; these 3 piece rods were at first carried in the saddle bags; then in 1877 the new trapdoor carbine had a chamber drill into the butt to hold the 3 rods and the headless shell extractor; the butt plate was modified by machining a hole through the butt plate and adding a rotating trap door; the rods are all pitted but they will screw together; I was told they were found wrapped togeth...er in an old piece of cloth.
