Excellent quality genuine 68 year old example, (definitely not a modern re-production); with a hinged silver lid, it is decorated with a fine enamelled flower on a translucent white guilloche enamelled ground and has a stunning stylised Art Deco "sun-ray" design. On the reverse it has engine-turned engraving and inside it is very clean and is compete with its original undamaged glass mirror with removable silver surround mount. It weighs a heavy approx 112 grams and has no added personal engravings. Great item.Measurements Measures 2.9 inches (72mm) x 2.9 inches (72mm) and is 0.35 inches (9mm) deep.Date English antique Art Deco solid sterling silver, with full English silver hallmarks for Birmingham 1953, (date letter "D"). Excellent clear struck marks and also includes the extra Royal Coronation hallmark stamp, only used for 1 calendar year. Further silver mark on the mirror surround and the silversmiths initials are "H C D", (Henry Clifford Davis - 1920 - 1964). Also stamped "Made in England".
Condition Lovely condition, with no splits or repairs, definitely no wear holes and no nasty knocks or dents, just a couple of very minor little bruises, really nothing. The hinged silver lid still work perfectly and the lid opens and closes very tightly and securely. Wonderful stylised Art Deco sun-ray design with beautiful enamelled flower and the Guilloche enameling is in great condition, has 2 very minor teeny little edge rim nibbles, really nothing much at all and barely show. Hardly any age-related surface scratching and the original glass mirror is still in superb condition, very clear and has no age marking or foxing. Superb quality and has a good heavy silver weight.
