A 1749 Salisbury, Massachusetts deed signed by several important Patriots including William Hacket[t], Samuel Adams and Bennett Greenfield; Israel Bartlett and Jacob Wortham as witnesses; and Caleb Cushing Junior as Justice of the Peace. This deed is for a plot of land in Salisbury. The Hackett Family were important shipbuilders, constructing the Tyrannicide, Massachusetts, and Alliance. William's son, Captain William Hackett later built the frigate Essex in Salem, Massachusetts ...and, during the Revolutionary War, was responsible for the design of a number of government-commissioned ships. Colonel Caleb Cushing Jr. (1703-1784) was the son of Reverend Caleb Cushing (1673-1752), pastor of the first church in Salisbury. He married into the Cotton family by marrying the granddaughter of Rev. John Cotton. Soiling and wear, creased, wax seals now partially missing, still good for age. It measures 8" x 12 5/8".
