Up for auction is this estate found Early English Large Spencer & Co London Brass Surveying Compass that came out of a Westerly R.I basement .It was manufactured by William Spencer between 1775 - 1820 in London and was probably Sold out of C. Gedney King's Boston shop which also manufactured and imported fine scientific instruments between 1805 and 1830 .The dovetailed King Box is in used good used condition with what I believe is the original finish and har...dware but does have a a repair on one side of box ( See last photo ), except for the inside screws and on the hinges , and not sure if they have been replaced at some point. The compass itself seems to work fine and it just has some wear on the brass and the I think is silver color but could use good cleaning .The only issue i see is one of the brass arms is bent ( see last photo ) but still goes together. Couldn't find another example like this one and looks earlier then the one I did find in museum .it is 13 1/2" long and dial is about 4 3/4" wide.
