Exquisite German Dressel & Kister China Doll 12”, Circa 1890
Item History & Price
This German china doll, made by Dressel & Kister, is rarely seen as it was not mass-produced as were the most common half-dolls, often referred as pin cushion dolls, also manufactured by Dressel & Kister.
As a point of reference, my mother, Margaret Hartshorn, was an antique doll collector and dealer for over 50 years. This doll was in her personal collection for over 30 years. She was an expert in c...hina dolls and was a collector and dealer in dolls of all mediums and types. She loved the early dolls. She wrote an article about these dolls (pictured).
She is a nice cabinet-size with her 12" inch height. This china doll has marvelous painting and sculpting of the neck, breasts, and back. I love the fabulous sculpting of the facial features. The hand-painted strands of hair are elaborate and beautifully styled. These type dolls with this type of detail are rarely available in the United States making this doll very sought after.
She is on her original cloth and wire armature body with original lower highly detailed china arms, chipped thumb. Her velvet and lace vintage clothing is well detailed with sequin and bead trim. She is in overall excellent condition.
