A rare original printed and manuscript completed ticket for the WASHINGTON CITY CANAL LOTTERY, held in 1796 to raise funds to cut a canal through the newly created District of Columbia to connect Tiber Creek with the Potomac River. The plan was unsuccessful.....This lottery ticket was signed by NOTLEY YOUNG [1738-1802], whose family were the original proprietors of parts of the land donated to create the City of Washington.
