Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:58363871 | Object Type: Vase |
A rare, large and highly desirable signed Clewell copper-clad pottery vase with burnished and original patina
11.5”H 8”diameter
Charles Walter Clewell developed a "secret" method for sheathing pottery vases with copper at his Canton Ohio studio beginning in 1906. By the 1920's he developed a technique to stabilize patinas, copper red and matte blue green verdigris. Often the blanks are identifiable from various Ohio potteries, Weller, Owens, Ferro...ck, etc.
It is in great condition with no chips, cracks, repairs, or firing flaws. Marked on the bottom with a hand incised Clewell and the number 385.
A good piece with great patina by a lesser known arts & crafts period craftsman.
