Thanks to All for your InterestUPDATENOTE: While polishing the guitar I found a Very Minor Straight Grain Split onthe Edge of the Back right near the curve of the Waist. I did the Light Testand the split Does NOT Go Through. It is NOT a Crack. And I couldnt even getmy thinner than paper .0025 feeler gauge into this split. It is a Non-Issuethat needed to b...e addressed. Nobody likes surprises and I pride myself ondelivering the goods...I was in a hurry and have had this guitar so long Ididnt take my time to go over it, and I apologize for any confusion orinconvenience. Please see the NEW PIC I posted. By the way, you will see someof the Quilt in the Mahogany In this Pic. I forgot to mention the RibbonMahogany Back has nice light consistent Quilting from Top to Bottom. Thank YouAll for your interest.Thisis my Vintage 1976 Mossman Tennessee Flat Top 2325. In Very Good to Excellentcondition with the Original Ess Ess Hardcase, also in ExcellentCondition. Made in Winfield, Kansas, U.S.A.by Stuart Mossman and Friends. Plays and sounds GREAT Shes Very Loud and theTone is Rich and Full and She also Records Great. The action is mediummeasuring 764ths on the Low E string, 12th fret. No Heavy lacquer Checking.Just VERY Light Checking on the Top Consistent with Any Nitro finished guitarthis old. Wouldnt show in pics. The Frets only show wear on the 1st-6th fretsat the 1st (E) and 2nd (B) Strings ONLY. And after looking closely at theFrets, Id say it probably had a Re-Fret a while back during its lifetimebefore me. Im definitely No Expert and She plays just Fine, I just thought Idmention it. This guitar has only 9 sets of initials, including Mossmans, on theLabel. These Initials are of each person who was involved in the Build, and thecount is low due to a Major Fire reducing output at this time in Production.Obviously Stuart would keep his Best Craftsmen working during these slow, toughTimes. And because there are Less people building each Guitar, this would haveraised Quality Control to a Very High Level. And a Design Change to the NeckJoint was implemented during this time so this Mossman Does NOT suffer from thesinking Neck Joint known as the Agony of DaFeet. This Mossman has theImproved Neck Joint with 2 Finely Scalloped Cross Braces under theFretboard Extension and The Top looks nice and straight all around theFretboard Extension. And of course, No Cracks. The Nut is made of Ebony Wood(Old School). The pickguard is a little loose near the bottom but does not getin the way when playing this Beauty (see pics). It stays down if pressed for alittle bit and can be secured with the right adhesive. The finish is in greatshape except for several dings and minor scratches that come with a 43 year oldguitar. The Mahogany square that covers the Neck Bolts inside the guitar wasremoved before I bought the guitar. This cover came off in 3 pieces that fittogether perfectly so it can be put back on and is included. Its just there toHide the Neck Bolts and serves no functional purpose. I put in a set of TaylorEbony Bridge Pins after the 1st string change. The worn Black Pins it came withare also included, along with the case key in the envelope. Thank youWhat is the difference when you BuySumTymeI am a collector myself and have a passion for horology. I spent twenty five years in Institutional Sales and account management and come from a really Old School Background. I inherited my love for vintage and contemporary watches from my Dad who grew up on the Lower East Side of NYC in the heart of the diamond, fashion and jewelry district and at that time NYC's watch district. His oldest and best friend from Childhood, a man named Russ Neglia was a very well known watchmaker down there, where Dad would take my brother and I on Sundays. So as a young boy, all I could do was marvel at the Showcases filled with such great American and Swiss manufacturers like Bulova, Accutron, Hamilton, Waltham, Elgin, Gruen, Benrus, Longines, Omega and well even Timex I suppose. Tragically the late 70's saw the demise of the most of the American Watch manufacturing giants, wha
I've been buying and selling Gurian Guitars for over 18 years, and until this fell in my lap I'd only heard about the Dixieharp -- a zither-like instrument that Gurian sold as a kit for customers inclined to try building they own instrument. Named for his wife at the time, it's a deceptively simple instrument with a wonderful tone that reaches back eons to capture the essence of early folk songs and ballads.I got this kit from a closing music store that still had a few Gurian-related items in in...ventory. As you might guess from the condition of the Dixieharp's box, the seller and I were both surprised to find the pieces were all there and still in good shape. So I had Marty Fair of Fairbuilt Guitars put it together (I wasn't about to mess this up) and now here it is, ready to be tuned up and played if you'd like, or put on display if you think it's more important as the only known example of a surviving Dixieharp.I'm a total fan of Gurian guitars, and jealously hang onto 4 of his guitars plus several other items relating to his business. He was a true innovator, and almost single-handedly caused a substantial upgrade in the quality of American-made guitars. The big makers of the day noticed when he opened his shop and soon had customers like Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Pierre Bensusan, James Taylor, Jackson Browne and a host of other performers who knew what they were looking for. Gurian gave us new guitar designs, great imported woods, handmade guitar components, new luthier tools, and a troop of former employees who went on to write books about guitar building and establish their own successful guitar making shops. There were only about 5000 Gurian guitars ever built. No telling how many of those have been lost to fires, floods, car wrecks, jealous lovers, elevator shafts, giraffe kicks, sunken ships, and children under 5. But if you're looking for a Gurian Dixieharp As far as I know -- and I've been looking nearly 2 decades -- there's a population of just one. This one. There ought to be a reserve, but there isn't.
