Description
*Relisted due to error in listing*
Very special, historic piece. Dated 1778. Rob Morris was a founding father and signed the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the US Constitution. He spent several years in debtors' prison after going bankrupt in 1798. The matting measures 19 7/8” x 14.5”. The letter measures approximately 9.25” x 7 5/8”. The letter has been folded up many times over, and has folds in... it. There are some rips to the letter and some discoloration due to age. The letter and print have been taped onto the matting on the backside. The tape is very old and dry, but I do not feel comfortable trying to remove it, and it would best be done by a professional. Please see photos for details. Will be shipped flat, tracked, and insured. The outside (backside) of the letter reads:

“Robert Morris Philad-Aug 24th 1778”
“To-- Boston 6 Mr. John Williams Merch. Boston”
The letter reads, as best as I can attempt to transcribe it:

“Philadelphia August 24th, 1778
