Antique Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Blue Decor A.J. Butler, New Brunswick, NJ 2G. Antique Salt Glazed Stoneware Jar The potter is A.J. Butler who worked in New Brunswick, New Jersey from around 1862 to 1875This is a two gallon jar and is a much less common shape for Butler. We see nemerous jugs made by Butler but do not find other jars. Both sides are decorated. On one side there is a large freeform design in cobalt blue of two flowers that look like tulips. It is NOT a repro and comes from a Long-Time Collection. It is Offered On-Line for the First Time. Through some On-Line Research, I found where this Company was in Memphis, Tennessee and was an Early Grocer, Cotton and Mercantile Company in the late 1800's and Early 1900's. I also read where it was also Located in Tupelo, Mississippi. I could NOT find another Tobacco Cutter with this Name on it On Line. It is Very Heavily Embossed or Raised in the Cast Iron: J T FARGASON CO. The base reads: ARROW. It has the Measurements for Cutting Plugs for 1 INCH and 2 INCH Embossed. It also has the Different Parts Numbered with Embossed and Stamped Numbers. The Condition is Great. It has been brushed down with fine Brass Brush and a light Oil put on. It has Never been re-painted. It still has some of its Original Black Paint. No chips, No breaks and No repairs. It is Super Solid.
