Depasse Pearsall Sterling Silver Overlay On Cobalt Blue Cambridge Glass Jug
Item History & Price
This is a very beautiful, and rare, cobalt blue jug (or pitcher), manufactured by the Cambridge GlassCo., Cambridge, OH. According to a representative of the National Cambridge Collectors, this jug is a No. 3400/100 - 76 oz, and is Ice Lipped, Royal Blue Crystal. The intricate, high quality, sterling silver overlay design, “Circle ofSwans", was created by master silversmiths of the Depasse Pearsall Silver Company of New York City during the early 1930's.They were... the successor to the DePasse Mfg Co. which operated from 1915 to1922, and the last company listing of DePasse Pearsall was in 1935. Hence, items manufactured by Depasse Pearsall are generally considered very scarce. Their items wereusually marked on the bottom with a blue foil label with silver lettering, although many of the labels have disappeared, as is the case with this jug. For information only, I have attached an image of a typical Depasse Pearsall bottom label from a different piece. Thesterling silver process used to create the overlay (or silver deposit), wasmarketed as "non-tarnishable", as may be seen on the attached typical label image. The mark "STERLING" is engraved along the bottom edge of the oval that encircles the Swans, and may be seen in the images.
This jug is in extraordinary condition, considering it isapproximately 90 years old. There are no chips, cracks, or blemishes, and the entire silveroverlay is intact. As might be expected, some of the silver finish on thehandle does show signs of wear. The height measures 8 1/4" and the widthat the widest part, not including the handle, measures approximately 6”. NOTE: Please thoroughly review the images and description, as we do not accept returns. Payment by PayPal only.
