It measures 89" by 84" across; the bed is a queen, 80" by 60".
The piecing was done in a combination of hand and machine sewing: see close-up # 12, of the underside, to observe that detail. We believe there is much more hand piecing than machine piecing, though.
The fabrics are, almost all of them, ...American made cottons from the last decades of the 19th century and early 20th century. Those are the blue and burgundy ones, and some of the white ones. The prints are mostly geometric and diminutive.
The red triangles were made with old Turkey red cotton.
The yellow triangles are mostly cheddar, but some are a lighter tone of yellow, as it is clearly seen in the photos.
We did not have enough photo-space (provided by eBay) to post close-ups of all the fabrics.
Kansas Trouble is pattern # 189 in Judy Rehmel's book. A similar arrangement appears as Bear's Paw as pattern # 162 in Ladies Art Co.
Judy Rehmel gives many interesting names to this same pattern idea (slight variations): Indian Trails, Forest Path, Irish Puzzle, Weather Vane, Flying Dutchman, Storm at Sea, Prickly Pear and others; see # 190 on her book.
But we like Kansas Trouble...
It measures 89" by 84" across. The small length difference is because there are 13" blocks along the bed, while only 12" blocks across.
