Offering for sale a pair of Pioneer HPM 100 stereo speakers, only made from 1976 to 1978 but still a legend among stereo hounds. This is the 100-watt version, and the 12-inch woofers, four-inch midranges, tweeters and super-tweeters all sound clear and powerful, boasting with a far-reaching frequency range of 30-to-25, 000 Hz (says so in the included manual). Unlike many HPM-100s for sale, there are no rips, tears, dents, or creases in the speaker elements. I treated th...e cabinets with Howard’s Restor-a-Finish, which makes the swirls and patterns in the wood grain really pop. The cabinets show minor wear; a few small scratches and one back side corner is rounded off a bit. I've included photos of the four sides of the two speakers, and both tops. Includes a Pioneer service manual (possibly a copy, but it's thick paper) and 1-1/2 of the original two operating guides that were stapled to the back of each speaker. After losing half of one of them, I got smart and put the other one in a Ziploc bag.
The grill frames are in fine shape .. . sturdy and all knobs for attached to speakers are present and unbroken. The two HPM 100 badges look great; over the years, the light stretchy grill cloth has pilled and there are a couple of small holes where it has rubbed against the edges of the frame. If you want to replace the cloth, that should be easy and inexpensive (unlike the foam grill covers in some vintage speakers). One more thing about the cabinets, and please ready carefully. I’ve had these for about 10 years, and a previous owner had drilled six small, shallow holes in one side of each speaker so he could mount them on a wall. As I measure them, the holes are 3/16 of an inch in diameter and in depth. They do not pierce the speaker box and so do not affect the sound. They don’t bother me visually, and you can see them in the photos. Local pickup is preferred. These bad boys are heavy (60 pounds each) and large—15.5 inches wide, nearly 26.5 inches high, and 15.5 inches deep. Therefore, shipping is expensive, and packing is difficult (at least for me, with my three shoulder surgeries). If you’re seriously interested and willing to pony up for packing and shipping, I can come up with an estimate. Questions are welcome. I’ve bought a lot of older stereo stuff on eBay, mostly good experiences, and I want this to be a great one for both parties.
