Pioneer DSS - 9 Holy Grail Speakers. Cones OK. Stored In Boxes 30, Years.

These are generally considered to be the finest speaker ever made by Pioneer Electronics Corporation. They were designed to be an advancement of the HPM series and to compete with the Yamaha NS-1000. The Pioneer DSS-9 features a beryllium tweeter, boron-cone midrange and graphite-cone woofer with dual voice coils. They are exceptionally well-built - Pioneer spared no effort in the design and construction. There is ample information online regarding this model.
This specific pair is ...in truly near-mint condition. Genuine museum quality. They were purchased overseas by an Army Technical Sergeant and transferred to the US in their original boxes in the late 1980’s. My suspicion is that they were never removed from the boxes until I took them out after obtaining them as part of a complete system last month. Whether they were used overseas I do not know. The stereo components that came with them were new in open boxes, so my suspicion is no.Everything about them is pristine cosmetically. I can’t find a scratch on them. The grills don’t have a single snag in the fabric. The graphite woofer cones were thankfully intact, and I carefully refoamed them with surrounds specifically supplied for this model from a reputable electronics supply company. I spoke to the company owner directly and he confirmed these were the right foams. I have probably refoamed over 100 pairs of speakers and this job went just fine - please see pics.Serial numbers are low - 00136 for the right speaker and 00837 for the left. Since these speakers are mirror-imaged they were probably made on separate assembly lines, thus the non-consecutive serial numbers. But they are certainly a matched pair. My guess is that these speakers were among the first 200 pairs made.I am selling these once in a lifetime speakers for local pickup only in Montpelier Vermont. I can have them packed in the original boxes and wrapped in protective plastic if the buyer hires a service to pick them up, or I can keep them out for inspection if the buyer comes to get them. But shipping is not an option at this point. They are incredibly heavy, and too precious to risk to standard shipping. Thanks and please send any questions.
