We now present this recent find:
From a Tucson, Arizona collector's estate:
Rare Louis Comfort Tiffany favrile glass container made to commemorate the Panama Pacific Exposition of 1915. The piece was made as an ashtray.
...The last photo shows a "skip" in the copper color along the rim. That is the point where the metal cigarette rest would have been soldered to the rim.
The Panama Pacific Exposition was held in both San Francisco and San Diego to celebrate the opening of the Panama Canal.
The piece is the classic Tiffany iridescent glass made by his patented favrile process. It measure 4 inches in diameter at the base, 3 inches in diameter at the rim, and stands 2 inches high. The copper colored band around the rim reads "Panama Pacific Exposition 1915" has a classic Greek fret motif. The band has a mark that reads "Tiffany Studios New York". The base has the incised Tiffany signature "L.C. Tiffany Favrile".
The piece is in very good vintage condition: there are no cracks, chips, or defects to note.
