I had a wonderful opportunity to acquire this beautiful hand blocked kalmakari panel. The design is magnificent in a peacock, urn and cypress tree of life variation. A lighter weight cotton, possibly muslin, entirely hand printed.Kalamkari is not my area of expertise so will tell you as much as I know and please reference my photos. as well.The design I believe is considered a prayer design. Could be India or possibly Persia? Uncertain. In terms of date, it certainly has age and s...afely I'm taking it back to about the 1930's/1940's though certainly could be older.From the examples I've seen, this more earthy palette of black, sage and tannish tones seems rather unique to find.Measures 36" wide by 51" long.Overall condition is good for it's age. There is some wear to the very upper portion where it may have been hung at one time (photo 7) and I found an about pea size hole that gets lost in the pattern.Makes a phenomenal wall hanging! Also marvelous added to a collection.
